Dakota digital Dash VHX for Toyota FJ40

Posted by Duane Badger on 16th May 2023

I ordered from Phoenix Tuning knowing that there was a long factory delay in filling my order. They communicated with me several times and gave updates etc. when appropriate. The dash arrived earlier than expected, but I was in the midst of other projects and only did the installation recently. It took two days because I was working on a 59 year old FJ40 and a lot of new wiring was required due to deterioration over the years. The dash fit right into the original escutcheon and worked well on initial fire-up. My only complaint (which has nothing to do with Phoenix Tuning) is that the speedometer adapter for my transfer case would not fit initially and I had to do some filing and reshaping to accomplish fit. The piece was brass so the effort was not too difficult, but it took some time never the less. I did end up ordering a new fuel sending unit because I discovered that my original was not functioning throughout the entire range. Programing was relatively easy, and following the directions helped tremendously. All in all, I am very pleased and will likely go back to Phoenix Tuning as a supplier for a dash on my next vintage project.
